The Royal Institution is an independent charity dedicated to connecting people with the world of science. The RI is based in a prestigious building in Mayfair with three themed public floors including a theatre, museum, library, glass atrium and restaurants as well as three further floors of office accommodation.

TUPE expertise

TUPE can be an unsettling time for the cleaning staff, but we use our well-tested approach to responsibly & professionally manage the transfer whilst making sure we improve cleaning standards. This is achieved by careful planning, interviews, reassurance and putting staff at ease.

The MAR approach and methods ensure that whatever standard the cleaning staff may have been accustomed to in the past, we accept responsibility for cleanliness from day one and immediately address poor standards. We have an absolute commitment to training, consistency, quality and timekeeping which we impress upon all our employees.

MAR Services has extensive expertise in managing TUPE staff transfers and this was a key feature of this contract. We were able to introduce individual cleaner responsibility and accountability, proven best working practices, a common high standard and a comprehensive BICSc and NVQ backed training and support program. This was set against pre-agreed wide ranging and exacting Service Level Agreements (SLAs), which were applied uniformly throughout the building and covered all cleaners. With an experienced Management team with sufficient resources, time and support we successfully targeted, monitored and improved the cleanliness and service performance of the contract from day one.
